The first Project Result (PR1) refers to the development of Mass Open Online Courses – MOOC about Digital Youth Work (DYW).

The MOOC is addressed to youth workers with little or no experience in Digital Youth Work, but who have great interest in the added value, digitalization and innovative tools have to offer for their field of work and the young people they interact with.

The MOOC includes five (5) central chapters:

  1. General Introduction to Digital Youth Work
  2. Digitalisation of the society and its impact on youth work
  3. Safety in digital youth work
  4. Tools and methodologies for digital youth work
  5. Design and implementation of activities/project on DYW

Different sub-chapters are included within the chapters, covering a variety of topics, such as Participation in DYW, Gender equality, Digital skills, and capabilities, Self-evaluation means and methods, Good Practices, Legislation, Cybersecurity, Cyberbullying, and ways to counter it, Youth policies on youth work, political context, impact and more!

The MOOC is in English, free-accessible to everyone via the innovative e-learning Platform CERBERUM.gr, to ensure their transferability.

Mapping:
During the preliminary work phase (before planning), an analysis and determination were carried out by each partner regarding the needs for digital skills in non-formal education and youth workers. Associate partner Verke also conducted a relevant, to a great extent, analysis at the European level, the results of which the consortium utilized.

The MOOC method was chosen for this Project as it practically strengthens and educates youth workers so that they can further advance potentially existing digital skills and capabilities, but mostly, so that they can develop new ones, get familiarized with the use of innovative digital tools, and finally be able to conceive and use creative educational methodologies by utilizing the available online resources collected in the Digital Toolbox of this project.

About the MOOCs
During the last years, rapid developments have occurred in the field of distance learning, thus creating a pedagogical framework radically differentiated from the conventional one. On this axis, MOOC poses an innovative proposal with rapid spread. They are an educational innovation that will crucially affect education. MOOCs have now been established as a part of distance learning.

The project envisions vital future partnerships on the open online nature of MOOCs, considering them the means to expanding access to affordable learning, developing new educational methods, and supporting a global learning community for co-building knowledge.

Goals and estimated impact:

  • Knowledge provision regarding DYW in Europe
  • Support of DYW development with the provision of good practices’ examples and innovative tools
  • Support of good practices’ exchange
  • Networking for organizations and individuals interested in DYW
    development.
